Rejection

None of us likes to feel rejected in life. The dictionary defines rejection as refusal · non-acceptance · declining · turning down · no · dismissal · spurning · rebuff · knock-back · repudiation · abandonment · forsaking · desertion. BIG WORDS! It’s hard enough as an adult to make sense of and come to terms with being ‘knocked back’, ‘spurned’ or ‘abandoned’ but imagine what it might be like for a child to experience this. Believe me, many children have been subjected to this behaviour and often in, what might be considered the most respectable of families. Sadly, feelings of rejection and abandonment in childhood can have traumatic consequences where issues of dis-trust with others are worked out detrimentally in a person’s life. This life is sometimes experienced as ‘normal’ for them since often the person is unaware of their frailty until perhaps a life event wakes them to it. Others can see there is a problem but just don’t know how to deal with their difficulties.
